Prof. Dr. Michael Decker is since 2004 deputy head of the ITAS (Institut für
Technikfolgenabschätzung und Systemanalyse) at KIT (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) and
heads the ITAS area ‘Innovation processes and technology assessment’. Since 2009 he is
professor for technology assessment at the Institute of Philosophy at KIT. Michael Decker studied
physics and economy in Heidelberg, got his diploma in 1992 and his PhD in 1995. In 2006 he got
his state doctorate (Habilitation) at University Freiburg with a thesis on applied interdisciplinary
research in technology assessment. From 1991 till 1995 he was a research assistant at
Universitaet Heidelberg, from 1997 till 197 at DLR in Stuttgart and from 1997 till 2002 scientific
officer at the European Academy for the Research on the Implication of Technological
Developments in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler.
